I knew that they generally understood the idea, but I wanted to encourage them to try some new strategies and stretch their invention skills a little. After a few disappointing Google search results, I found myself at the \u201c<a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Tips &amp; Tools<\/a>\u201d page of the UNC-Chapel Hill Writing Center site.<\/p>\n<p>There, I found perfect resources to share with students, including a <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fbrainstorming%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Brainstorming tip sheet<\/a> and this Webbing video:<\/p>\n<p>I quickly realized that the site had much more to offer. The \u201cTips &amp; Tools\u201d page features nearly a hundred resources, organized into four categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Writing the Paper<\/li>\n<li>Citation, Style, and Sentence Level Concerns<\/li>\n<li>Specific Writing Assignments for Contexts<\/li>\n<li>Writing for Specific Fields<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The handouts range from ideas on <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fthesis-statements%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Thesis Statements<\/a> to basic strategies for working on a <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fdissertations%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dissertation<\/a>. Some of the resources focus on general writing advice, such as dealing with <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fprocrastination%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Procrastination<\/a> and <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fwriting-anxiety%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Writing Anxiety<\/a>. Others address topics frequently heard in the writing classroom, like how to use <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fgender-inclusive-language%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Gender-Inclusive Language<\/a> and ways to work with <a class=\"jive-link-external-small\" href=\"https:\/\/community.macmillan.com\/external-link.jspa?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwritingcenter.unc.edu%2Ftips-and-tools%2Fwriting-groups%2F\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Writing Groups<\/a> effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps one of the best things about the site is that the handouts are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 License. That means, as the site explains in the footer, \u201cYou may reproduce it for non-commercial use if you use the entire handout and attribute the source: The Writing Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.\u201d If you need a supplement for your class or a specific student, these \u201cTips &amp; Tools\u201d have you covered.<\/p>\n<p>Have you found an online resource that is particularly helpful in the writing classroom?
