Enjoy Life Template Variation

Baltimore Swap, Matted with PearlsHere’s my swap from the Stampin’ Up Regional in Baltimore, Maryland, April 13. The design was all done with My Digital Studio, using the Spring to Life Kit. To make it a hybrid project, I added a mat in Lucky Limeade and added Pearls, in graduated sizes, to the butterflies.

Baltimore SwapMy design was inspired by a birthday card by Heather Summers from the Simply My Digital Studio Challenge group on Facebook. I switched out the kit and used different embellishments.

My one cheat is the butterflies. No amount of recoloring the butterfly embellishment from the Spring to Life Kit was giving me a butterfly that looked appropriately Lucky Limeade. If I were patient, I could have colored in the butterfly using the Freeform Tool. As it happens, I’m not that patient. I took the butterfly to Photoshop, used the magic wand, and refilled the butterfly in Lucky Limeade. Its mat outline is Always Artichoke.

Merry and Bright Christmas Card

Merry & Bright Christmas CardWhile I love my Winter Photo Booth swaps, I realized that people might want a simpler option. For my second swap for the Chattanooga Regional, I decided to create an MDS card that was easy to make and that could easily be made as a non-digital card. I CASEd this design from Julie Leblanc of Kewlstamps. I used the Coloring Tool in MDS2 to make each letter in the sentiment a different color.

To make the card a hybrid, I printed out the Whisper White layer only, rounded the corners with a Circle Punch, and then mounted the layer on either Gumball Green (as shown), Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, or Primrose Petals. I also accented the images with Dazzling Details to add a bit of shine.

Here is the supply list for the card:

  • Cardstock Back: Gumball Green (as shown), Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, or Primrose Petals
  • Background: Whisper White, with rounded corners
  • Stamps:
  • Punches
    • Scallop Square Punch (included in the original MDS install)
    • Postage Stamp Punch
    • Square Punch (included in the original MDS install)

Winter Photo Booth Card

I-am-snowmanMy Winter Photo Booth swaps for the Chattanooga 2012 Regional are based on the same idea as my Halloween Convention swaps. To upgrade the design to a hybrid card, I printed the image out and mounted it on a piece of cardstock (either Pool Party or Island Indigo). I sprayed the cards (before they were mounted) with Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz. Finally, I added Basic Rhinestones to the center of the two snowflakes on the bottom right.

Here is the supply list for the card:

Halloween Photo Booth

Halloween Photo BoothHere’s my swap for Stampin’ Up Convention 2012. I printed the image out and mounted it on a piece of cardstock (either Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, or Lucky Limeade). I added Googlies (Stampin’ Up googly eyes, coming in the Holiday catalog on August 1) to the second ghost down the strip.

Now that I have played with MDS2 (got the beta during the class at convention), I know that parts of the card will be much, much easier with the new software. The ability to create groups and control layers would have probably saved me hours, if not days, of work. Since that’s the case, I’m not going to bother with the specifics of how I created those parts of the card. I’ll save all that for later, after the new software is released.

Here is the supply list for the card:

  • Cardstock Back (not shown): Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, or Lucky Limeade
  • Background:
  • Photo Booth Backgrounds:
  • Stamps:
    • Pumpkin Patch – verse 1, element 1, element 3, face 1, face 2, and face 3
    • Holiday Blitz – pumpkin face
    • Spook Central Designer Ensemble – spider
    • Day in the Life – 4 frame
    • Wicked Cool – hat
  • Punches
    • Circle Punch   (ghost faces)
    • Two Step Owl Body Punch and Eyes 2 Punch  (ghosts)
    • Oval Punch (ghost faces)
    • Square Punch (photobooth backgrounds, tabs)
    • Tasteful Trim Shape 3 (the zigzag edge)
    • Check This Out – photo box 9

Hello Kitty Friend!

Hello Kitty FriendJeanna Bohanon’s Hello Kitty card for the MDS Blog Hop reminded me that I never posted the card I designed for my sister to use as a swap at the Columbus Regional back in February. I actually think that Jeanna’s card is cuter. I love the ears on Jeanna’s card, but this version works well for something basic and is perfect for a gift bag—just take a look at this gift bag by Connie Stewart, which is where I CASEd the idea from.

Here are the details on the card:

  • Background: Pretty in Pink Small Polka Dot
  • Cat Face: Square Punch, Fill Color = Whisper White
  • Nose: Wide Oval Punch, Fill Color = Crushed Curry
  • Eyes: Circle Punch, Fill Color = Basic Black
  • Whiskers: Square Punch, Fill Color = Basic Black
  • Bow:
    • Butterfly Punch, Fill Color = Melon Mambo
    • Circle Punch, Fill Color = Melon Mambo
  • Sentiment:
    • Decorative Label Punch, Fill Color = Whisper White with Melon Mambo Mat
    • Square Punch for ribbon, filled with Melon Mambo Small Polka Dot
    • Stamp: Sunny Day\Sunny Day – hello friend, in Melon Mambo

A Jumbo Pile of Swaps!

My jumbo pile of swaps from @stampinup #convention2012Here’s a sneak peek at my gianormous, fantastic, jumbo pile of swaps from Stampin’ Up Convention 2012. I got to meet the marvelous Heather Summers, got to play with the beta version of MDS 2 (I’m hooked), and generally had a magnificent time. Can’t wait to play with MDS 2 more and post about all I learned. Thank you Stampin’ Up for an AMAZING convention.

Happy Easter Card

Happy Easter CardThis is my swap for the Columbus regional this weekend. If you’ll be at the event, come find me! I was inspired by the many Christmas cards that featured hanging ornaments and the idea of an Easter egg tree. In particular, I wanted to create something similar to the Something for Christmas—All Together stamp.

I printed the cards on 5½ x 4¼ Avery InkJet Postcards/Index Cards (8577). They could be used as postcards, but the image is the same size as a 5½ x 4¼ card as well. Because my printer required a margin (in other words, it can’t print to the edge of the paper), I set the card with a white background. With that margin, the image printed on the cards properly. Essentially I let the bleed area function as the background.

Once the cards were printed, I let them dry a few hours (so the ink didn’t smear) and added some accents with Dazzling Details. They needed to dry again after that before they could be stacked, of course.

Here are the details on the card:

  • Background:
    • Back: Whisper White
    • Middle: Everything Easter—Pattern 5, with a 2 pt Island Indigo mat and default drop shadow
    • Top: Whisper White, with a 2 pt Island Indigo mat and default drop shadow
  • Sentiment: A Good Egg—Happy Easter in Island Indigo, with default drop shadow
  • Embellishments taken from Everything Easter (left to right), all with default drop shadow
    • Basket color
    • Flower color
    • Scallop circle 2
    • Egg color
    • Balloon color
  • String: Tree Trimmings—String, in Island Indigo, with default drop shadow

Reindeer Gift Tag

Reindeer Gift TagThis gift tag may have been my most popular swap, probably because everyone recognized the Dasher stamp (which I converted to Rudolph with a red brad).

The background is Christmas Jingle, Paper 4. I used a 2″ by 1.5″ punch of Old Olive with a drop shadow on the right. The Dasher image is Circle 1 from the Christmas Jingle – elements. I added a Cherry Cobbler brad, resized to .128″, to change Dasher into Rudolph. The sentiment is A Holly, Jolly Christmas – to from.

Snowman Gift Tag

Snowman Gift TagThis Snowman Gift Tag was printed on a 2″ by 3.5″ business card and designed with resources from My Digital Studio.

The left image is the Snowman from the Holiday Blitz brush set, in Night of Navy, with a default drop shadow. The effect is a frosty look on the snowman part of the image. On the right, I used the Snowflake from the Best Wishes & More brush set, also in Night of Navy, set to 19% opacity.

The “Ready, Set, Snow!” sentiment is Sentiment 3 from Best Wishes & More, in Night of Navy. The “To – From” sentiment is from A Holly, Jolly Christmas, also in Night of Navy.

Red Snowflake Gift Tag

Red Snowflake Gift TagSized to print on a 2″ by 3.5″ business card, this gift tag uses very basic elements from My Digital Studio. The background is Cherry Cobbler Polka Dot, included in the free 2010 New Color Patterns download. I reduced the pattern size a bit to distribute the dots nicely.

The green label is Christmas Jingle Label 3, in Embellishments. The snowflake is Christmas Jingle – elements, Snowflake 10. The sentiment is the to/from stamp from A Holly, Jolly Christmas brush set.
