Merry and Bright Christmas Card

Merry & Bright Christmas CardWhile I love my Winter Photo Booth swaps, I realized that people might want a simpler option. For my second swap for the Chattanooga Regional, I decided to create an MDS card that was easy to make and that could easily be made as a non-digital card. I CASEd this design from Julie Leblanc of Kewlstamps. I used the Coloring Tool in MDS2 to make each letter in the sentiment a different color.

To make the card a hybrid, I printed out the Whisper White layer only, rounded the corners with a Circle Punch, and then mounted the layer on either Gumball Green (as shown), Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, or Primrose Petals. I also accented the images with Dazzling Details to add a bit of shine.

Here is the supply list for the card:

  • Cardstock Back: Gumball Green (as shown), Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, or Primrose Petals
  • Background: Whisper White, with rounded corners
  • Stamps:
  • Punches
    • Scallop Square Punch (included in the original MDS install)
    • Postage Stamp Punch
    • Square Punch (included in the original MDS install)

DIY Christmas Chevrons

Christmas ChevronsI decided to find a way to create chevrons without the punch or stamp. To get the effect, I used the Large Photo Corner Punch to get the effect—super easy and super flexible. Just flip the punches, match them up, and group them to make a line of zigzags!

Here is the supply list for the card:

  • Background: Whisper White
  • Chevrons: Large Photo Corner Punch with color picked from the light polka dots behind the deer
  • Dasher Focal Image: Christmas Jingle – Circle 1
  • Square Punch, reshaped to a rectangle, in Old Olive with a 2 pt. Chocolate Chip Mat
  • Sentiment: Jolly Jingles – Merry Christmas to All
  • Embellishments:
    • Basic Pearls and Rhinestones – Rhinestone Small on the snowflakes
    • Brad – Real Red for Rudolph’s nose

Hello Kitty Friend!

Hello Kitty FriendJeanna Bohanon’s Hello Kitty card for the MDS Blog Hop reminded me that I never posted the card I designed for my sister to use as a swap at the Columbus Regional back in February. I actually think that Jeanna’s card is cuter. I love the ears on Jeanna’s card, but this version works well for something basic and is perfect for a gift bag—just take a look at this gift bag by Connie Stewart, which is where I CASEd the idea from.

Here are the details on the card:

  • Background: Pretty in Pink Small Polka Dot
  • Cat Face: Square Punch, Fill Color = Whisper White
  • Nose: Wide Oval Punch, Fill Color = Crushed Curry
  • Eyes: Circle Punch, Fill Color = Basic Black
  • Whiskers: Square Punch, Fill Color = Basic Black
  • Bow:
    • Butterfly Punch, Fill Color = Melon Mambo
    • Circle Punch, Fill Color = Melon Mambo
  • Sentiment:
    • Decorative Label Punch, Fill Color = Whisper White with Melon Mambo Mat
    • Square Punch for ribbon, filled with Melon Mambo Small Polka Dot
    • Stamp: Sunny Day\Sunny Day – hello friend, in Melon Mambo

Pansy Card

I struggled a bit with this week’s Stampin’ Queens Sketch Challenge (SQSC33). Nothing I tried worked, so I looked through my Likes on the My Digital Studio site, and suddenly I had it figured out. Here’s this week’s original sketch:

SQSC 33 Design

And here’s my version of the card:

PansyCard

The pansy design was taken from Marian Kay’s Pansy Butterfly. Hard to believe those pretty pansies were made from the butterfly punch! The color effect is made using Drop Shadows, similar to what is demonstrated in the Adding color using drop shadows video by Cindy Schuster. Here is the details:

  • Background Layer: Big Top Birthday—Paper 4
  • Pansies: Overlapping and rotated Butterfly Punches, in this order and color:
    • Large, back butterfly in Wisteria Wonder
    • Medium, middle butterfly made with drop shadow set at 100% Opacity and Full Blur in Concord Crush
    • Small, top butterfly made with drop shadow set at 100% Opacity and Full Blur in Summer Sun
    • Daffodil Delight Brad in the top center
  • Embellishments:
    • Grosgrain Ribbon—bow in Wisteria Wonder
    • Grosgrain Ribbon in Wisteria Wonder

I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas

I'm Dreaming Of A White ChristmasThe twentieth card in my 25 Holiday Cards Challenge started as one of the simple snowman staring up at the sky cards—but then it got really complicated. I wondered what else someone looking down at that snowman might see, so I created an overhead view of trees and a little girl with a sled plus some snowflakes beginning to fall. In some ways it was a complicated card, but the components are fairly simple.

Here are the details on how I made it in My Digital Studio:

  • Background: Candy Cane Lane—Pattern 1, Opacity at 40%
  • Trees: Stacked and rotated Star Punches and Flower Punches, in a variety of sizes, in Garden Green and Wild Wasabi
  • Snowman:
    • Body: Stacked Circle Punches in Whisper White
    • Hat: Square Punches in Basic Black with a band in Bashful Blue, and Holly from the Jolly Bingo Bits
    • Scarf: Frostwood Lodge—Pattern 9
    • Buttons & Eyes: Brads in Basic Black
    • Nose: Petite Pennant Punch in Only Orange
    • Arms: All in the Family—left arm
  • Little Girl:
    • Shoes: Oval Punch in Basic Black
    • Pants: Circle Punch in Night of Navy
    • Coat: Circle Punch in Baja Breeze with Word Window Punch for sleeves
    • Face: Oval Punch of Blush Blossom with All in the Family—head 10
    • Hands: Oval Punches of Blush Blossom
    • Hat: Oval Punch in Real Red (masked with rectangle of Blush Blossom at the bottom), and Word Window and Circle Punch in Whisper White for the trim
  • Sled:
    • Tag Punch in Frostwood Lodge—Pattern 3
    • Long, thin rectangle punches in Sahara Sand to create the look of slats.
    • Baker’s Twine – White knot to simulate the rope to pull the sled

  • Sentiment: “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” typed in Arial, 32 pt.

Warm Wishes at the Fireplace

My card for this week’s Stampin’ Queens Sketch Challenge (SQSC17) is the eighteenth card in my 25 Holiday Cards Challenge. Here’s the original sketch:

SQSC17 Design

At first I wasn’t sure what to do with this layout. It seemed almost too simple to me. As I thought about it longer though, I imagined a fireplace in the squares in the center. I tried some other ideas, but once I had thought of the fireplace, nothing else seemed right. Here’s my version of the card:

Warm Wishes at the Fireplace

I ended up taking some liberties with the layout. The basic shapes are there, but I broke up the top center square to make my idea work properly. I had to add some decorations to the top of my make-shift mantle, which is outside the original design, but otherwise, I think the elements are all there and all the same. Here’s the breakdown on the elements:

  • Background: Rectangle punches of Frostwood Lodge—3 on top and Crumb Cake across the bottom
  • Wide Horizontal Rectangle: Frostwood Lodge—4
  • Top Rectangle:
    • Pieced rectangles of Frostwood Lodge—3 on top for the mantle
    • Pieced rectangles of Cherry Cobbler for the bricks on a Very Vanilla rectangle (for the mortar)
  • Fire:
  • Stockings: Stocking Punch in either Garden Green or Whisper White with a Basic Gray Mat, and then topped with Stitched Stockings—Socks 1,2,3, and 4 in the opposite color
  • Decorations on the Mantle:
    • Holly & Jolly Embellishments—Trees
    • Jolly Bingo Bits—Candle in Whisper White with a circle punch of Summer Sun behind
    • Christmas Jingle—Berries 2 on the candle holder
  • 3 Presents:
    • Jolly Bingo Bits—Gift in Garden Green with a Square Punch of Whisper White behind
    • Merry Winter—Gift in Certainly Celery with a Square Punch of Whisper White behind, and a Grosgrain Knot in Certainly Celery on top
    • Holiday Blitz—Gift in Night of Navy with a Square Punch of Whisper White behind
  • Brads: Cherry Cobbler
  • Sentiment:
    • Hugs & Wishes—Large Warm Wishes in Cherry Cobbler
    • “for a happy holiday” typed in Arial, 14 pt, in Cherry Cobbler
